Jitter
Abbreviation
Definition
Jitter equals the change in the amount of time it takes for a packet to move from Point A to Point B. Jitter is sometimes referred to as Packet Delay Variation (PDV). It is any deviation in the signal pulses in a high-frequency digital signal. The deviation can be in terms of amplitude, phase timing or the width of the signal pulse. Among the causes of jitter are electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk with other signals.
